Description
The graffiti botanical You Give Me Butterflies No. 2 is a visual expression of the joy I felt shooting in a Butterfly Pavilion. Being amongst hundreds of butterflies is a joyous, transformative experience being as they playfully encircle you, alight for a moment and flutter away. It’s like a thousand soft kisses. It’s akin to the playfulness of new love, the fleeting nature of it and the joy it brings as you remember those moments—thus inspiring the title of this work. You Give Me Butterflies No. 2 combines graffiti with botanicals in the most unexpected approach. Vibrant butterflies, blooms and street art ephemera are re-imagined. All elements become individual drawings. Colors from decaying graffiti walls become my palette. Imagery is physically burnished into the surface of my substrates in multiple stages intertwined with acrylic, pigment ink, spray paint, gold leaf and occasionally paper to form a composed work of art that is uniquely individual blending nature with the urban landscape.
