Description
Bee Engaging is a graffiti botanical in the Overgrowth Collection where street art ephemera, botanicals, bees and other garden creatures “grow” over a classic image—signaling the “death” to outdated modalities and social norms. The figure in Bee Engaging has a defiant gaze that says “If I must be engaging, I will.” While she’s behaving “as required” the butterfly “mask” suggests that there is more going on. Reinterpreted foundational portrait by John Singer Sargent. Sitter: Elizabeth Winthrop Chanler.
