Description
Queen Bee is part of a collection I created in response to the turmoil of 2020—a world-wide pandemic and contentious presidential election. As I sought refuge in gardens, the quiet beauty of nature helped me navigate this unusual time where we were distanced from so many of the things and people we loved. It also gave me pause to focus on the importance of the
election and exercising the right to vote. For a solo gallery exhibition, I created these complex works blooming with abundance, bursting with color from graffiti walls and sprinkled with positive gems of street art wisdom to counterbalance those promoting division, intolerance, suppression, and uncertainty in our democracy—all meant to say we must take a leap of faith, we must be resilient, and we must persist. Queen Bee symbolized the potential election of the first female vice president in history of the United States. This work is finished with a Matte Satin UV Varnish and gold leaf edges.
