A Bee In Her Bonnet

A Bee In Her Bonnet combines graffiti with botanicals in the most unexpected approach. Vibrant butterflies, blooms and street art ephemera are re-imagined. Elements become individual drawings and colors from decaying graffiti walls become my palette. Imagery is physically burnished into the surface of my substrates in multiple stages intertwined with acrylic, pigment ink, spray paint, gold leaf and occasionally paper to form a composed work of art that is uniquely individual blending nature with the urban landscape. A Bee In Her Bonnet features a hand-cut image from an 18th century etching where the flowers and bees are growing out of the bonnet. The bonnet signifies days gone by and outdated modalities. The title is a play on words to demonstrate irritation and concern regarding the attack on women’s rights in 2022 by the Supreme Court and the evangelical right.
