Description
Bee Seen is a graffiti botanical in the Overgrowth Collection where street art ephemera, botanicals, bees and other garden creatures “grow” over a classic image—signaling the “death” to outdated modalities and social norms. Bee Seen is a work about being your authentic self—not questioning gender identity or sexual orientation. The vintage pattern integrated into the portrait, but faded out, signifies years of masking one’s true self and the butterflies signal a letting go of that— a rebirth and that love is louder. Reinterpreted foundational portrait by American artist Alice Pike Barney (1857-1931) Subject unknown.
