Where two beautiful worlds collide: botanicals and street art.
For the past eleven years, I’ve photographed graffiti around the world. It’s been my passion to celebrate it in unusual ways. This new series is no exception. These words debuted in October of 2020 as part of a solo Show called “Let Democracy Bloom.”
While traveling to shoot street was impossible during the pandemic, spending hours photographing in botanical gardens and green spaces was not. The quiet beauty of nature was a refuge during this unusual time where we were distanced from so many of the things and people we loved yet immersed in one of the most politically negative times in our history.
Creating these complex works that are blooming with abundance, bursting with color from graffiti walls and sprinkled with positive gems of street art wisdom was my emotional response to those promoting division, suppression and uncertainty in our democracy. Now more than ever, it is important to exercise our right to vote. We must take a leap of faith. We must be resilient. We must persist.”
With these works, street art is celebrated an unusual way. Photographic graffiti elements are handprinted between layers of pigment, ink, acrylic, spray paint and oil pastel to become part of a contemporary street-art inspired work that is atmospheric, dreamy.
